HPSI is a woman-owned business, founded in 1997 and managed by Karen Medsker, Ph.D. and Larry Medsker, Ph.D. As Prinicipal Learning Specialist, Karen helps clients analyze performance issues, select appropriate solutions, and manage their design and development. Recent projects include total cost of ownerhip, legal regulation in aviation, and employee care management. At Marymount University, she trained a generation of instructional designers in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and authored two books on training design. She provides workshops on Instructional Systems Design (ISD). Her passion is the practical application of research-based principles to improve workplace performance.As HPSI’s Chief Scientist, Larry’s specialties are information systems, computer science, artificial intelligence and data science in Washington, DC. He provides consulting services and seminars for managers and technologists on best practices for incorporating science and engineering advances into business, government, and educational organizations. All recommendations include attention to the ethical design and implementation of systems. Projects include the optimization of online learning for graduate academic and professional programs. Larry is the author of over 150 scientific articles and four books on artificial intelligence.
